Does your entire body seem out of whack? You’re not alone. As we age, many of us suddenly feel as if we’ve been zapped on several fronts: our senses, our appearance, our energy, our sex drive and even our minds.

Based on a nationwide poll, Dr. Oz has devised a 5-day plan to help you recharge your body in the 5 ways you need it most.

Dr. Oz’s 5-Day Plan to Recharge Your Body in 5 Ways

Day 1: Elevate Your Senses

Many of the those polled noticed that their senses were not as sharp as they once used to be.

 

Elevate Your Sense of Touch

To test the sensations in your hand, hold your arms downward and press your wrists against one another; hold for 10 seconds. If you feel numbness or tingling in your thumb, index finger or third digit, that means you have some nerve compression.

To maintain and strengthen the sensation in your nerves, take 10 mcg of vitamin B12 each day. Vegetarians are especially at risk for this deficiency. Try placing the supplement under your tongue since many people do not absorb it as well when only swallowed.


Elevate Your Sense of Smell

To test your sense of smell, take an alcohol swab packet and open it up by your belly button. Breathe in and see if you can detect its odor. Next, begin moving the pad closer to your nose and keep trying to smell it. If you smell the swab 8-12 inches away from your nose, around chest level, that’s normal. However, if you still can’t recognize it at 4 inches away from your nose, that indicates a loss of smell.

If your sense of smell is lacking, try taking 600mg of the supplement alpha lipoic acid daily, to wake up the olfactory nerve, which is instrumental in the sense of smell.

Elevate Your Sense of Taste

To test your sense of taste, mix 1 gram of zinc sulfate, available at supplement stores, with 1 liter of purified water. Swish it around and hold it in your mouth for 10 seconds before swallowing. If you don’t sense a metallic taste, that indicates a problem.

Take 15 mg of zinc daily if you experience a deficiency in taste. Within 2-3 weeks your sense of taste should be restored. Otherwise, consult your doctor.

Day 2: Spice Up Your Skin

As your skin ages, not only do wrinkles appear but the fresh dewy look of youth is replaced with dullness and even dry patches.

When combined, the spices cinnamon and nutmeg can soften fine lines and make your skin glow. Nutmeg actually lightens age spots by turning off melanocytes (pigment cells), while cinnamon helps plump skin, filling in fine lines and minor wrinkles.

 

Nutmeg & Cinnamon Face & Body Wash

To make this inexpensive, skin-rejuvenating wash, take 6 teaspoons each of ground cinnamon and nutmeg and run through your coffee machine’s filter. Pour the mixture directly into a warm bath and soak in it. Or allow the mixture to cool and use as a face or body wash that you can leave on and let penetrate your skin for up to 10 minutes a day.

Day 3: Spark Up Your Sex Life

A diminished sex drive is a common complaint, especially for women who are simply too exhausted at the end of the day to get in the mood. To spark up your sex life, you need to know about the foods that act as aphrodisiacs and can help light your fire, as well as those foods shown to extinguish it.

Foods That Hurt Your Sex Life

 

Soybeans: Soy foods such as edamame contain phytoestrogens that disrupt the balance of testosterone and estrogen. Based on dietary guidelines, eating more than 25 grams of soy per day is not recommended.

  • 2 cups of soybeans = 25 grams of soy isoflavones
  • 12 cups of soy milk = 25 grams of soy isoflavones

Coffee: Too much coffee spikes stress hormones such as cortisol, which puts you in fight or flight mode, making it difficult to relax and thus lowering your libido. Avoid drinking coffee before you’re planning on cozying up to your partner. While coffee may not help set the mood right, it has other protective and disease-fighting properties. Sauerkraut: Regular sauerkraut contains almost 1000 mg of salt per cup, 40% of what is recommended for the whole day. Too much salt causes hypertension, which constricts blood vessels and reduces libido. Before eating sauerkraut, rinse it with water to get rid of excess salt. Foods That Help Your Sex Life

Pears: This fruit contains boron, a mineral which stimulates the production of sex hormones.

Watermelon: High in the amino acid cetrulline, watermelon improves blood flow to the genitalia.

Garlic: This pungent herbaceous plant contains the amino acid allicin, an ingredient that increases blood flow to the sex organs.

Day 4: Smooth Your Moves

With age, both cartilage and lubrication diminish in your joints, which increases friction. This causes inflammation that not only exacerbates pain and discomfort, but also can cause damage. Your knees are often a common place where this occurs.

Soothe and Stabilize

1. Soothe

To ease joint pain, apply arnica gel to the area where you are experiencing discomfort. Then apply an elastic bandage around the joint, wrapping it in a figure eight motion to give some flexibility to the joint. Also, make sure you don’t wrap it too tight. This application decreases inflammation and can be applied on any body part such as your arms, shoulders or feet.

 

2. Stabilize

Stair Exercise

To stabilize and build up the muscle in a troubled knee, try this stair exercise. Step up on the stair with your “bad” leg or hip. Go back down slowly and tap your heel. Repeat. Carry out for 3 minutes.

Squat Exercise

Here’s another way to build up your knees. Lift one leg up and out. Squat down on the other leg. This builds your quads, which stabilizes your knees.

Day 5: Boost Your Memory

 More than half of those polled were afraid of losing their memory. To energize your brain, try these six memory-boosting foods.

  • Red onions contain quercetin, a phytochemical that contributes to healthy brain function.
  • Eggplant has nasunin, an antioxidant that protects the lipids or fats in brain cell membranes.
  • Rosemary has carnosic acid, which has neuro-protective properties shown to help keep Alzheimer’s at bay.
