Eyebrows are an important and underestimated feature on the face. They add balance and structure and can help make a person look 10 lbs. thinner, or even 10 years younger. Because everyone has a different shaped face, it’s a matter of finding the right balance and shape that works for you.
A rounder face should have a higher arch to add length to the facial structure. A square-shaped face should have rounder brows to soften the facial features. A heart-shaped face should have a straighter brow to lessen the length of the face. Lastly, an oval face should carry an eyebrow not too defined and not too round, but right in between.
The ideal brow shape is on the fuller side. Fuller brows definitely add a more youthful appearance. Be careful not to over-tweeze. Thinner brows tend to create an older, more severe look. Remember, Cinderella and Snow White had fuller softer brows, whereas the evil witch and the stepsisters had severe thin brows – they did that for a reason.
Remember less is more when grooming your brows at home. To prevent over-tweezing, tweeze one row of hair at a time, then step away from the mirror to take in the overall effect before tweezing another row. Lastly, be careful of taking out too much hair between the brows.
Generally you never want your brows to be more than an inch and half apart from each other. The more space you have in between your eyebrows the wider the bridge of the nose appears., which may make your face seem fuller than it actually is. When your brows are appropriately spaced apart the jaw line gets more defined, the nose appears sharper and the eye looks bigger.
Men can also benefit tremendously from a good brow. Many men shave the hair on their faces daily but tend to neglect the brow. Brush the brow hairs upward and take a small pair of cuticle scissors and trim all the long hairs above the natural brow line. Also remember that two brows are better than one by cleaning up the space in between.
If you're trying to grow in or fill your eyebrows, use a brow powder applied with an angled brush, or a brow pencil to fill them in and make them look more defined. And something I recommend for everyone is a clear brow gel, which simply by brushing the hairs up can create a more alert and youthful appearance.
My philosophy has always been that each person exudes their individual beauty and "Every face deserves the perfect frame."
