Medical Director, NY SportsMed
Michael Neely, DO, is the Medical Director at NY Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy. He has dedicated his practice to the treatment of athletes, both professional and "weekend warriors.” Dr. Neely specializes in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, emphasizing a non-surgical approach to medicine with the ultimate goal of returning patients to their active lives. Continually educated on the newest medical techniques and the most advanced technology, Dr. Neely delivers the most state-of-the-art, effective treatments available.
In keeping with Dr. Neely’s commitment to improving the lives of physically active individuals by remaining at the forefront of advanced treatments, he has recently made available to patients of NYSportsMed a cutting-edge approach for treating osteoarthritis. Dr. Neely has collaborated with Dr. Edward Capla to introduce the Regenokine® procedure (the next generation Orthokine®); this new treatment significantly relieves the pain associated with inflammation in joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. The Regenokine® procedure relies on the body’s own healing powers coupled with an advanced biological approach to treat the pain, inflammation and deterioration caused by osteoarthritis. NYSportsMed is currently the only facility on the US East Coast that is licensed to offer this treatment.
Because Dr. Neely takes the time to listen closely to his patients, he is an expert at assessing all types of injuries and pain sources. He takes time to evaluate each patient’s condition and prescribes customized treatment plans. Dr. Neely strongly believes in a conservative approach to the treatment of pain. He often challenges his patients to learn how to improve and manage their pain through aggressive physical therapy. In addition to the Regenokine® procedure, Dr. Neely offers various advanced treatment options, including Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy, joint fluid replacement and trigger point injections, among others.
Dr. Neely received his medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a Specialty Internal Medicine Track Internship at South Pointe Hospital of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation/Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served as Chief Resident during his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at MetroHealth Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. His intensive study of Physical Medicine included specific training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation, and the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Medical Center.
Dr. Neely is a Board-certified Diplomat of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR), a Board-certified Sports Medicine Doctor, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR). He is also an Associate Member of the American Osteopathic Association.
Driven by his dedication to medicine and his specialty, Dr. Neely continually attends education seminars which exceed the minimum requirements of maintaining his license, ensuring his patients receive the most current level of care available.
Dr. Neely maintains a very active lifestyle. He enjoys running marathons, scuba diving, downhill skiing and snowboarding.
