Liposuction has been the most common cosmetic surgical procedure over the last 20 years. It’s a great procedure and it is very effective at body contouring. But it certainly has its risks. Infections, bleeding, blood clots, and even deaths have occurred. So, plastic surgeons have been searching for ways to remove fat without surgery. The best new technique is called focused ultrasound – with the Ultrashape machine. That’s a technique that harnesses sound energy and funnels it down to a tiny point – so that the intense sound actually explodes the fat. This technology is scientifically proven and is approved around the world – and soon it will be in the US.
And now there’s a new way to kill fat. When the skin is cooled to between 32 and 50 degrees for at least a half an hour, fat actually crystallizes, expands, and destroys the cells that contain it. The skin is more resilient and doesn’t get injured. Nerves can be temporarily injured by the technique but they bounce back after a few months. The body cleans out the destroyed fat and two months later – voila! – less fat. Without surgery or even a needle. It’s a procedure called Zeltiq. It’s not in the US yet – but it will be soon.
Stay tuned for an explosion of procedures that will be as popular as Botox. By the end of 2010, I’m quite certain we’ll be busting up fat without surgery.
