Someone told me that the planet Mercury is in retrograde the whole month of August. That means that Mercury starts spinning in the opposite direction! That is incredible. Astrologers say that this event is supposed to cause havoc and confusion for those who fall under this sign. Good, then I have something to blame for my feeling more scatter-brained and discombobulated this month! Astrologers also say that it's a great opportunity to adjust our attitudes and think of new ideas.
I've decided to accept the current chaos and prepare for the amazing month of September when Mercury starts spinning the right way again! You may be saying, “What the heck does this have to do with a blog that usually focuses on weight loss and healthy food?” I say that it has everything to do with it! I say it's time to do a 360-degree turn on your outlook on how you have been living! Embrace this as a time of renewal — a time for starting a new approach to food and wellness!
A lot of people use January 1st as a goal date to start a weight loss plan. Well, why wait? I propose a weight loss challenge! The "Get Bon, Why Wait" Challenge! We can all use this crazy retrograde as a time to start thinking about better ways to creating a healthier way of life!
Start actually putting into action things you keeps putting off until the new year. Just think of it! If you started right now, that's 4 months that you could be cleaning up your diet, working out and dropping the weight. It's only 4 months! Focus on 4 months rather than a goal weight. Focus on just living healthier.
Start like this:
1. Get Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen's book, YOU: on a Diet. Take the “YOU Test” on page 208! It is a great reality checklist on how you are living.
2. Start cooking with the You: On a Diet recipes. The book is filled with great yummy, simple meals that are easy to prepare and can be made ahead of time for the week and portioned out. I challenge you to cook from it for 4 months. You can create some variations of your own also! I've also got a few of my recipes mixed in here with my blog posts that you can try also!
3. Write down 3 foods that you promise to yourself you will cut out in these 4 months. Whether it's fried foods, sugary sodas, or fast food. Just commit to it, one step at a time!
4. Get a walking or workout buddy. Have that person help keep you on track and you can help each other stay active and working out. Depending on your fitness level, I challenge you to push yourself a little harder and a little longer! If you are already walking in your neighborhood, walk an extra block, and then another and another – or walk a little faster! Challenge yourself!
It's only 4 months! I believe that you are stronger than you think you are! I know that you are. I know that if you can truly start changing your behavior in little ways, you will see some really great results that your waist line will really like! Take steps September 1st to being the best and healthiest person to bring in the new year!
