The hardest part of being skinny to me is finding balance. It was almost easier being over 265 pounds, despite me being on my way to a heart attack. Time didn't matter. What I ate didn't matter. It was fairly effortless to let the days slip by. I was focused on my career as an illustrator. Enjoying painting, eating whatever I wanted. Feeling fat was just a way of life then.
But now that I'm 143 pounds and have maintained this weight for year - I've found that it's harder to be skinny, truth be told! Yes, I am healthy. I feel great. I have added years to my life and am so thankful for all the hard work I have done to improve my life. But, I have still not found that balance between maintaining home, career and health.
The reality for me is that I have to carve out enough time in each day to focus on cardio and weight lifting at least 6 days a week. It's really tricky for me, especially since I'm an artist. I'm not the most organized woman in the world! I love to work out and just wish I could do it even more! But I have to maintain a job that pays the bills just like the rest of America.
I let my gardens fall by the wayside for about a year while I was heavily focused on the weight loss. But I'm happy to say that finally I have regained control over them! They are all mulched and weeded and look great! I'm finally clearing away stuff on my desk and still have a ways to go on that, but I will finish it soon.
Now that I'm a Wellness Warrior for Dr. Oz, I've adding another dimension to finding balance. I am so excited to be sharing thoughts and inspiration with people who have contacted me from the show. But that takes another level of commitment too.
Then there is my day job. If I just didn't have my current day job, just think of all the amazing things I could do! I could work out my abs even more! I could be creating more and more recipes to share with the public! I could work on a little video for that Oprah contest to have my own show. I could spend more time getting a personal trainer certificate so that I could start some kick butt boot camps and food demos! I have so many ideas! I want to spend time working on a children's book that helps kids realize that they are powerful, strong kids and get them excited about health and fitness.
I have to keep living as focused, with a passion for all things good and see where the road takes me! The balance will come. The weight will stay off and my little spirit will keep soaring and dreaming of big beautiful things. And if there are dishes in the sink at the end of the day, it's not the end of the world! I'm smiling big as I choose positivity stick with me all day today!
