Rebooting the Body and Mind

Am I absolutely out of my mind? I hosted my very first "Get Bon" Retreat for a group of women from all over the country who I've never met. They come to learn how to cook my healthy meals that have no sugar or refined anything. Thankfully, no one had any major cravings for pink cupcakes in the middle of the night. And no one even got cranky! Quite the opposite occurred. No one had any major sugar cravings whatsoever. Everyone was vibrant and feeling alive. In just a few short days, everyone realized that there is life without chips and brownies.

These amazing women came to learn what I know about how I changed my life through attitude, whole foods and a newfound love of fitness. In just one week’s time, these women rebooted their taste buds by eating fresh whole foods that were not processed or refined. Nothing came in a box. They were making significant shifts in their minds and they felt better. Their skin looked better. They even noticed they had more energy. Each day, I shared with them some of my healthy recipes and showed them that cooking from scratch really isn't mysterious or as time-consuming as they thought. Hands down, everyone liked my Super BonBon Superfood Veggie Soup the best! It is made with sweet potatoes (a good carb), organic tomatoes (loaded with lycopene), kale (packed with great vitamins and minerals), garlic and onions (both great for cardiovascular health). These are all of the ingredients that Dr. Oz talks about. All great stuff for fighting obesity and are also on Dr. Oz's cancer-fighting grocery list. I sprinkled a little nutritional yeast on top (loaded with amino acids) and chowed down. No one even fussed about not having any bread.

We started each day with a 40 minute walk. Each afternoon we did a workout. I showed them how to do strength training without a gym. I had them paint a 9-inch plate that they could eat from to help with portion control. They turned out beautifully.

The focus of the retreat was not on calories, fat burning or pounds lost. I wanted them to be inspired by me and get them to realize that they, too, have the power to change themselves. Whether their mission was to just eat better or to reboot their health by dropping a significant amount of weight, they came to listen and experience life in different way.

One woman, Wendy from Savannah, had a powerful shift. She walked further than she had in over 30 years! The next day, she actually did 10 jogging intervals with me. And today, she emailed me to say she joined the gym.

Every single one of the participants shared with me that since coming to my retreat, they are making all of my recipes and loving them. They are living it. Jane and Jan actually drove directly from the retreat to the health food store to buy turmeric, Greek style yogurt, nutritional yeast and kale, along with all the other things I shared with them. Jane cooked my spinach timbales the minute she got home and her husband even liked them. My mission to pass on what I know worked. They are even eating my favorite sweet snack, prunes and peanut butter. Don't knock it 'til you try it! Prunes are loaded with antioxidants, so step aside blueberries, you have some competition.

I plan on hosting another "Get Bon" Retreat in May, July and September.
