Football Sundays: Tuna Burger

Between the holidays and football season, you might see the men in your life pack on a few pounds. You might even put on some sympathy weight yourself. But you don’t have to. If you’re going to be sitting on the couch all day – watching others being athletic – the least you can do is make the right food choices. And, of course, get a brisk walk or workout in before and after the game.

Make my healthy tuna burger, a perfect and protein-packed alternative to that bag of chips.

10 oz ahi tuna, divided into 2 portions

1 tbsp olive oil

2 whole wheat hamburger buns, toasted

2 tbsp pesto

1 tomato, sliced

¼ red onion, thinly sliced

1/2 cups lettuce

Salt and pepper to taste

Coat the tuna with the olive oil and season with salt and pepper.

Grill on high heat for 2 minutes on each side, until the outside is lightly charred but the interior is still pink.

Coat the buns with the pesto, then add lettuce, tomato and onion. Serve and enjoy.
