The anticipation for the start of the show -- to see how audiences respond and read how critics rate it -- is killing me. It must be unbearable for the Wizard (he has a lot of nicknames, but that’s the one I like best.) But I spent Monday night and Tuesday with him this week as he taped 2 shows. He was calm. I’ve only seen such calmness in the face of early battle once before -- and that was on President Obama when he was candidate Obama. He was to debate Hilary that night in Cleveland. And he calmly showed up around 7:30 a.m. to lift weights and work out. I’d probably be too nervous, but the now President asked me about my son Jeffrey (I had told him that Jeffrey had sent more money to the Obama campaign than to his college alumni fund.) Mehmet has that coolness about him.
We went to the farmer’s market; no one recognized me, but even more surprising no one said hello or asked for an autograph from Dr. Oz either. If I am right about the Dr. Oz Show, that may well never happen again without a disguise for Dr. Oz.
Now last week I mentioned I thought Lisa was his secret sauce -- and people have written to my firstname.lastname@example.org email asking what I meant. It is really simple. She gives him advice, and it is never wrong.
Well, I haven’t heard it. And he actually listens to her. Although like me, Mehmet may not acknowledge he listening to his wife. But it is Lisa who made the YOU books more fun, and it is Lisa who made the YOU books more enjoyable. And Lisa and I often argue over the evidence about alternative therapies and vaccines on Oprah radio. You have to listen to her. Occasionally I admit she’s right. Okay more commonly as she and her mom always send me more info on alternative therapies afterwards. The advice I’ve witnessed her give Mehmet has always proven right on. Yes, she’s as nervous as I am about the show -- nervous with anticipation. Lisa, like I, thinks you’re going to really enjoy it.
