A recent observational study found that individuals who consumed a great amount of fiber actually lived longer. They found that the 500,000 participants in the study had a decreased cause of death from cardiovascular, infectious, or respiratory diseases by 24% to 56% in men and by 34% to 59% in women. If you’re a regular Dr. Oz viewer, getting enough fiber is not new news to you; but the question is, are you getting it?
While most Americans associate high fiber with grains, it’s important not to forget about fruits, vegetables, and legumes. In fact, these foods usually have even more fiber per serving than the grains. Raspberries, for example, have 8 grams of fiber per cup, black beans have 15 grams and broccoli has 5 grams. You can see how easy it would be to get enough fiber in your diet just by having a few servings. From now on, don’t just read about fiber or talk about fiber but actually include it in your diet. According to the studies, you’ll live longer and as a side note, your bathroom habits will improve as well!
