Traveling abroad this summer has been the perfect prescription for me. As my wife Lisa and I embarked on our overdue vacation I was impressed at the passion for, and magnitude of the World Cup. It’s everywhere and people’s enthusiasm and love for the sport is palpable. While wins, losses, ranks and advancements steal our focus; it’s easy to forget the physical demands on these athletes. The players run an average of 7 miles per game – at a pretty impressive pace.
If only we could tap into this international soccer craze and it channel it into a world-wide fitness fever. Imagine if the millions of people are glued to their TV screens spent the same amount of time learning to play soccer or walking their 10,000 steps. The benefits would be extraordinary; it seems the only missing step is motivation.
The nationalism and rivalries of the World Cup inspire its participants to phenomenal feats (cue Landon Donovan.) Yet, in these dog days of summer, many people still find it hard to step away from their air conditioning.
Perhaps it’s time for all of us to step into some greenery and fresh air. On Tuesday, July 6th, I have an all-new show that offers inexpensive solutions for getting fit and healthy this summer.
