Cruisin' at the Grocery Store!

Today, I will grocery shop for the week...and right here, right now, I will make my list. Now, I always have my "staples." You will see that this consists of the fresh weekly items that no matter the price, or season, I will buy. I have them in my fridge at all times, unless they are in my stomach. These foods are all part of my automated list and I could not go a day without them. The rest of the items I base on specials, what's in season and ingredients for new recipes I try. Truly, my kitchen is best known as "The Schuessler Test Kitchen." I try new recipes constantly, and like to think of myself now, as a creative cook. Some things could win awards, while others I'm afraid, we never ever want to smell or taste again under this roof! So, as I make the list, I look at my local ads to help me decide!

Staples:
bananas
organic baby spinach
organic spring mix lettuce
fiber wraps
lots of free-range eggs!!
organic baby carrots
celery
assorted fruits
organic fat-free milk
almonds
frozen assorted veggies
organic black bean/lentil soup
brown rice cakes
hummus
Greek yogurt (original flavor)

The rest of the list for the week:
red/orange peppers
fresh mushrooms
onions
tomatoes
cilantro
assorted canned beans
brown basmati rice
butternut squash
fresh broccoli
salmon
spaghetti squash
organic tomato sauce
fingerling potatoes

tilapia
organic fat free re fried beans
salsa
whole wheat couscous
free-range chicken breast

I think that's all I need! Phew! Certainly, though, some staples we may not have gone through this past week, so when they run dry they will make the "staples" list.  Depending on how much I used, that section is either bigger or smaller (e.g. almond butter, high protein/high fiber cereal/steel cut oats.) I just didn't need to buy new boxes. There are certain foods I always try to have in my cupboards though; for example, items to snack on or canned/boxed goods I like to just keep on hand. I will let you all know what my cupboards hold, too! We'll chat about that another day. But, for now I'm off to the grocery store with my list and my reusable shopping bags! Talk to you tomorrow!
