So, today was a great reminder to never let yourself get too hungry. Bad things happen when you're too hungry! I had a busy day filled to the brim from the moment I woke up, until the moment I went up to bed! In fact, I'm lying in bed right now writing this. Hunger is frankly a very overwhelming feeling and it has the capacity to take over every fiber of our being! In a mad rush out the door, I left without my secret weapon (an egg white and fiber wrap – see below!) I took the wrap by itself, which left me feeling like I grabbed the short end of the stick. I did however manage to bring my son an arsenal of snacks, drinks, fruit leathers and assorted goodies! In a moment of weakness I feared I would eat all his snacks!
But, since he's my #1, I just stared longingly at them. As a new mom, my primary focus is my son and it is easy to forget my own needs at times. We tend to put ourselves last. However, "if Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!"
In a moment of weakness, I feared eating every last crumb of his and even duking him out to guzzle his milk, too! On top of my poor planning, I also managed to leave the house with no plan as to what or where I would eat lunch. So, now, it went from bad to worse! It took every ounce of strength to not give into my cravings! Salty, crunchy, WHITE carbs were beckoning me!
I thought of Amy and how she is on the front lines of her food war and I went to battle today against my will and I WON. I made it home and was able to whip up a yummy, healthy, satisfying meal and sighed a breath of relief. We don't always win the battle over hunger though, do we?!
We let ourselves get TOO hungry and then we eat everything except the kitchen sink. That is why automation is so important...satiation = success! Find the foods that are dense in nutrition and you begin to love them not only for how they taste, but more importantly, how great they make you feel! I love my automatic breakfast, lunch and snacks! Eating that way keeps me satisfied and fulfilled so that my mind can enjoy the life I have around me and I don’t obsess on food or dwell on the next meal!
Breakfast is key to jumpstarting a great day, I suggest eating protein and fiber to keep you full for hours! I love talking about all the reasons why automation is key, and I'll write more on that later, but should you have a day where you don't win the war against food and you feel like you took a blow to the core, know that each new day and moment brings new choices. It’s hard to not give in to hunger, that is why I want to urge you to reprogram yourself so that you are equipped to take on the challenges that lie ahead.
When armed to fight on the front lines, you won't question your direction because the path you are on is one that has been traveled and proven to get you to your goal!
Egg White Fiber Wrap: My egg white fiber wrap is a great breakfast on-the-go. I cook 6 egg whites alone in a pan. When they are scrambled, I add cayenne or red pepper flakes and roll them into a low-calorie, high-fiber wrap. It's 220 calories, 12 grams of fiber and about 30 grams of protein!
