With the holidays around the corner, I can already start smelling all the gooey sweets! If I shut my eyes, I can see mounds of cakes, pies and frosted cookies shaped like snowmen and that shimmer like snowflakes. Shhhh...listen: I need to tell you a secret. I am a
chocoholic. Not only do I like chocolate, but I love it! I actually remember thinking
that people seemed to be plain silly if they would let a morsel of dark chocolate just slowly melt in their mouth. That, to me, sounded rather crazy!
Now, if you mentioned noshing on blocks of chocolate, THEN we had something to discuss. How I've changed. Now, I am the one saying that a square of dark chocolate is so
satisfying. Dr. Oz speaks of dark chocolate and mentions that it needs to be 70% cocoa content or higher. So, that’s what I do. I buy a delicious bar of very dark, organic, fair trade chocolate from my local grocery store. I would have never dreamt that a bar could last so long under my roof. I no longer have to hide my chocolate stash in the bedroom or in a secret drawer. I keep it in the kitchen in the cabinet along with all of my other go-to snacks.
With the holidays around the corner, though, and my chocolate tooth beckoning, I want to share 2 things that I love to do with dark chocolate. For the holidays, this girl HAS to enjoy some creations of her own! One thing I love to do is to purchase pound of raw almonds and coat them with dark chocolate. During this holiday season, I will eat my twelve almonds with a little pizzazz!
Also, another snack I frequently enjoy is high fiber/high protein cereal. Sooooo, you betcha, I melt a bar of chocolate and pour it over an ENTIRE box of cereal and then store it in a sealed bag or container. Incidentally, my husband is not a big fan of my high fiber cereal; however, coated in chocolate, I've made a fan out of him!
The holidays signify so many things, and one of them is jazzing up our everyday lives to reflect the festivities. During this time of year, I look for ways I can still eat healthy and add a little bit of twinkle into my automation. We have lights and sparkles and wrapping paper with bows, so it only seems appropriate to put some chocolate coated wrapping paper on some of our snacks, to make the season bright! Fiber and antioxidants…now, that’s a recipe to glam up any of your good ol’ faithfuls!
