My Baby Steps

People often say things like, “You just need to take baby steps.” I find myself saying those words often as well. How true they are. They are not just words, because if you put those words into action, you will be crossing the finish line reaching your goal before you even know it. This past weekend was Mother’s Day and there was a lot of celebrating going on in our house. My husband surprised me with the most delicious homemade cake ever! I think he uncovered a hidden baking talent! The care and thought he put into this creation was unbelievable! Cherries, chocolate, agave, organic whole wheat flour, organic soy milk – and of course more chocolate! What a surprise. This treat was so fantastic I’ll post the recipe as soon as he can give it to me!

As I reflect on what it means to me to be a mom, I think about how the baby steps I took to get healthy, in turn brought baby feet to me! I remember flipping through a popular women’s workout clothing catalogue to find a shirt that had very inspiring words on them. I remember thinking to myself that I would love to own that shirt and wear it proudly. I had even thought about buying it to wear one of the times I was on The Dr. Oz Show, so that way, without saying audible words at all, America would know how I truly feel. The words read something like this:

A fit woman is fit for everything, the fitness of our body fuels the confidence in our soul and the fire in our belly.

We are fit to toss our children in the air, or throw caution to the wind, or to stand on the sidelines and cheer.

We are fit to run. We are fit to do whatever God wills.

We are fit for everything!

I never did buy the t-shirt. Now I feel that I could wear it proud and believe the words that it says because I live it – but I can’t find it anywhere. Oh well! Being a mom to me is such a privilege and honor. I love being with my son and being a fit mom. Running through the mud, sand, wind or rain sounds fun to me now, and I look for ways to make memories with Benaiah daily. How thankful I am to be fit and healthy. Baby steps mean so much to me figuratively and literally – take your own baby step today and reach your goal!
