Revolution or Revolt? That is the question amongst families. You wouldn't believe how often I hear that question from people! “How did you get your husband to eat that way...and your child?” I love to cook; however, I only enjoy cooking ONE meal for the entire family to enjoy. I cannot emphasize enough...you all need to take charge and just clean out your cupboards, first and foremost. If the bad for you food is not in your house, then what you prepare will look pretty tasty compared to a whole lot of NOTHING!
Going from enriched white noodles to 100% whole wheat may take a few meals before everyone jumps on board with you. The same goes for bread, as well as the introduction of all sorts of fresh veggies. You may feel like your family won't eat things unless they are dripping in butter or smothered in cheese, but stay encouraged. Our taste buds change and evolve; I am living proof of that, as well as my husband. As far as children are concerned, I am very blessed that Benaiah was born AFTER our cupboards had been raided. He has only ever known 100% wheat, assorted veggies and fruits, and I don't cook or buy things filled with sugar. My sister has three boys, and I've seen her get them to eat tofu nuggets and broccoli like they were devouring hot fudge sundaes
just by calling the food by different names. Instead of broccoli, she names it "dinosaur trees" and tofu nuggets are magically called "Happy Bites." ("Happy" happens to be the name my nephew uses when he refers to the triceratops, his favorite dinosaur).
Before we know it, their plates are clean in honor of their Jurassic friends. Life has
become very creative...creative cooking, preparation and wording! In the beginning, “what you don't know CAN hurt you” became my philosophy. I began substituting different foods in place of things that I used to eat, and my husband slowly started softening and changing as well. It was a process that is part of the journey...adapting and embracing this new way of eating healthy. We made slow steps and now today, our palettes have both changed 180 degrees. (I love the name of the program at the Cleveland
Clinic…Lifestyle 180. How appropriate!) When you consistently cook foods that support health, it is hard to deny how much better you feel. Dan began to have more energy, mental alertness and stamina during his workday. The ONLY thing that he could give credit to all of this new found strength was the food he was fueling his engine with!
My husband wouldn't put corn syrup in his car to get it to run. He puts the best fuel in his vehicle to get it to perform at its peak. His body is his engine, and after getting used to running on high-octane fuel, he wouldn't go back! The proof is in the pudding! Raid your
cupboards, fill them with things that are going to promote vitality and health and get rid of things that are full of empty calories and lack nutrition. Someone wrote me a week or two ago and shared with me that she had disposed of everything that was bad for you on their shelves and in their cupboards. She said she stood there and looked at how empty they were. However, instead of sighing in disappointment, it was relief. They were indeed EMPTY, but something clicked in her head.
Julianne wrote to me and said….”but now, as I purge my own cupboards of all of the unhealthy JUNK we have, I have grown to appreciate looking into the cupboards and seeing EMPTINESS...NO MORE empty calories, NO MORE empty nutrition, NO MORE empty energy! Just foods to help my success and keep me and my family strong and healthy! Thanks Nancy!!”
I am right there with Julianne. I am a strong woman that wants what is best for her family. My husband and my son are my priority. I want them to be healthy and strong and live life to the fullest along with me! I am beginning my own revolution…not a revolt. Make changes, the rest will follow!
