Timing Is Everything

At the time my husband and I met, I weighed over 200 pounds - and he loved me. He loved me as I weighed in on our wedding day at 323 pounds. His love has never faded, even when I crept up to almost 400 pounds! His love remains the same today, and I love him in the same way. I love him, no more or no less, based on what size pants he wears. However, because I do love him so much, my heart's desire was for him to live the healthiest life he could live.

My husband had put on a few pounds during the time I put on a few hundred! He is blessed to be naturally tall and has an athletic build. Three weeks ago, at the salon I work in, someone brought in an article clipped from an AARP magazine, containing all sorts of healthy tidbits from Dr. Oz! It also had a 3-day menu to jump start your weight loss.

I told my husband that if he gave Dr. Oz the first 3 days and me the other 4 days, he would be on a major weight loss roll! Well, 3 weeks into this weight loss adventure, my husband has lost 15 pounds. He is melting right out of his clothes! I made a trip to local store and bought him a few staples to wear to work!

As I began to lose weight and embrace a healthy lifestyle, he willingly changed to adapt to my new healthy food choices, yet he still hung onto a few bad eating habits. I knew that if he changed those last few bad habits, his waist size would shrink rapidly into a healthy range! Nothing I said or did could give him the will to change. I could only love him, support him and encourage him. I have done this over the last 3 weeks during the jump start, and he has been more encouraged in the process.

We are going on vacation in a few months, and I encouraged him by saying he would be at his goal weight by the time we hit the beach! I am immeasurably proud of him! Losing weight, trading old habits for new ones, and resisting temptations takes a lot of discipline, hard work, focus and sheer determination. My husband just recently caught the bug and had his "a-ha!" moment.

That little article from Dr. Oz in the AARP magazine just reminds me how encouraging Dr. Oz is towards a healthy lifestyle. The words from that article rang a bell within Dan and now he's a man on a mission! There is a time and a place in which everyone has their "a-ha!" moment when the clouds roll away and the sun beams down on you. There is no better time to start than now. My jump start was 5 years ago. My melting husband's was 3 weeks ago! Timing is everything!
