The Beautiful Being of a Mother

One of the greatest gifts I’ve received as a psychotherapist is my ability to work with mothers. From their vulnerabilities, mothers give strength. And in a world full of conflict and uncertainty, mothers serve as the nurturing force to compassionately direct the lost and scared children in all of us.

One of the greatest gifts I’ve received as a psychotherapist is my ability to work with mothers. From their vulnerabilities, mothers give strength. And in a world full of conflict and uncertainty, mothers serve as the nurturing force to compassionately direct the lost and scared children in all of us.

In honor of this Mother’s Day, I thought I’d simply set forth some of the extraordinary qualities that make mothers beautiful human beings:

  • Mothers cry.
  • Mothers comfort.
  • Mothers worry.
  • Mothers assure.
  • Mothers are misunderstood.
  • Mothers understand.
  • Mothers are judged.
  • Mothers accept.
  • Mothers desire.
  • Mothers fulfill.
  • Mothers fear.
  • Mothers protect.
  • Mothers bleed.
  • Mothers heal.
  • Mothers fatigue.
  • Mothers renew.
  • Mothers don’t know.
  • Mothers teach.
  • Mothers get lost.
  • Mothers find.

For every mother who may read this, thank you for your strength, courage and commitment to renewing the gift of life. You show me that love holds incredible healing power and serves as beautiful inspiration in our conflicted and complicated world.
