How often do you find that you are distracted from your weight loss goals? You start out strong and then life happens; work gets busy, the kids’ schedule takes over yours and the next thing you know you’ve given up hope and direction. Sound familiar? You’re not alone.
Today marks 1 year since we did our first episode of The Dr. Oz Show. Over the past year, I have learned so much about myself. I’ve learned that healthy weight loss is not starvation, being a slave to counting points or calories, or the instant results the media plagues us with. Instead, the formula for healthy weight loss is; putting in work + proper preparation + balance + eating right = success!
Yet, weight loss is never that easy. We are all plagued with distractions and obstacles and if left unaddressed, these factors can and will sabotage our weight loss success. None of us are living in a controlled environment where we have chefs preparing our meals and have trainers at our beckon call for working out every single muscle in our bodies. On the contrary, we are all busy with life. Life is unpredictable and full of twists and turns.
Obstacles often present difficulties and can sometimes seem overwhelming and almost impossible to conquer. What we seem to forget is that we all have options in how we deal with obstacles. When it comes to obstacles, we can choose to get over them, get around them, go under them or rise above them. Sometimes we just need to blast right through them. How does this relate to your weight loss journey?
I often hear that busy schedules get in the way of staying the course to weight loss success. While I agree wholeheartedly that it can present a challenge, I do not think it is an obstacle that cannot be conquered. In this situation, what is needed is one of the factors of the healthy weight loss formula – proper preparation. What I find to be extremely effective and successful for me is taking one day a week to plan my meals and prepare them. This ensures that no matter how busy I get during the week, I always have my meals readily available. This eliminates the bad habit of skipping meals or reaching for the wrong ones.
I also work out each day. Sometimes this means that despite the fact that I am not a morning person, I greet the morning in the wee hours of the day to get in my 10,000 steps or schedule time with my trainer twice a week. I find when I prepare and schedule time for meal preparation and exercise; I stick to it – as every other hour of my day is booked with life events!
No matter what the obstacle is that is either slowing you down or stopping you in your tracks, always remember that you have a choice. Either get over it, around it, under it or just blast thru it!
