On Friday I sat and watched our rerun of the Healthy Housewives of Oz. As I sat there and watched, I cringed in disbelief. I was shocked that 6 months ago that was me.
Watching our first episode brought back so many memories and reminders for me. I still remember what it felt like to be at that weight and the emotions that came along with it. I know all too well the effort it takes to drop all that excess weight. I remember the mental battle I struggled with in overcoming the 'big girl mentality," as I've blogged about before. As America sat and watched us tell our story, I was sitting there remembering the struggle, the tears shed along the way and the joys experienced as I worked towards that first goal.
Watching that rerun has also had a positive effect on me. I have been able to reflect on how far I have come and truly celebrate my success. Losing weight and reaching my health and fitness goals has been so much more than seeing a number on the scale. For me, it's been about taking back control, reacquainting myself with who I am, reinventing myself and becoming the person I really want to be and deserve to be.
My journey has been about empowerment and enrichment. I have learned to love the person I am - flawed and all. I've embraced these soft curves and love the woman that is always looking back at me in that reflection.
If you are starting on your journey to weight loss, I recommend doing a video diary so that you can see your progress and reflect on what it took for you to become the best YOU can be.
