For many, these past few weeks were full of family, visiting, food, vacation time, and fun. For me, these past two weeks were full of temptations, cravings, indulgences, and guilt! Don’t get me wrong, I did not completely fall off the bandwagon. However I will say that half my body was dragging along as the other half was gripping on to the steering wheel for dear life. As I slowly felt myself lose control and take hold of an Oreo or 2 or 3, I quickly came to realize that I was losing my grip and needed to call in help. So it was time to call in the big guns – the Enforcer – Dr. Roizen!
I will admit I was scared to confess the error of my ways and tell him about all my poor food habits and lack of movement but, I knew that confiding in someone was the only way I could overcome this bump in the road. So, I swallowed my pride set aside the guilty feelings and emailed him. Within no time he responded to me and told me first to get past all the guilty feelings and anxiety over this slip up and just make a YOU-Turn. So the next morning I woke up and knew this was the day I regained control! I got up to exercise while away on vacation (major accomplishment for me) and made a conscience effort to make wise food choices. Next thing I knew, I was back on track and feeling victorious!
So if you find yourself in the same situation I would urge you to stop feeling guilty – we all make mistakes and drowning our sorrows in a tub of ice cream won’t help anyone. Pick up the phone and call a friend, admit your weakness and keep on moving! The truth is that we will all moments where we fall off track what’s key is understanding where we went wrong and making a successful YOU-turn.
