Circling the Block

Close your eyes as we take this ride down the road called Weight Loss Success Boulevard. It’s a sunny day and we have the top down and the wind is blowing through our hair we’ve eaten a healthy breakfast, a filling snack and an oh-so-delicious and nutritious lunch. But as the day goes on, hunger sets in and we aren’t prepared with our snacks! So we say, “Hey, I’m sure that we can grab this small bag of chips and we can recover later with a YOU-turn.”

So we continue our journey down Weight Loss Success Boulevard. I’m looking good at 32 pounds lighter and let’s not forget about those 2 or more dress sizes that I was able to shed and I’m feeling really good. So today was a busy day and I didn’t take out anything for dinner and those chips from earlier did absolutely nothing to crave my hunger only satisfying my desire to have something that I thought would taste good. I’m in the car heading to the babysitter, thinking to stop at the grocery store for some healthy dinner options or not to stop. Do I get the baby out of the car in this brisk Virginia weather? Or do I keep heading home to rummage through my fridge and make yet another salad? Well either would be the right thing to do, but I’m more leaning towards stopping at the local eatery for something warm and filling coated in white flour, made from fatty meat, dropped in hot grease and served with a side of minimal veggies and a piece cornmeal bread with a scoop of butter. I say, “Okay I can do that and I’ll just make yet another YOU-turn.” That’s what Dr. Roizen would say, isn’t it?

I think that often we make mistakes thinking that if we change back immediately we can recover, but what happens when those YOU-turns end up making you circle the block? It’s so easy to get off course and toss those good habits out the window and continue down a road of destruction. Bad food habits can put you at a point where you are making the same mistakes over and over again, it’s like your mind is stuck making left turns when you were trying to make a YOU-turn only. So when you find yourself stuck going left remember the following:

You are worth it

You are in control of you

You only have one you

You come first!

Now go out there and be the best you that you can be!
