When is the Right Time?

I remember just some months back talking about how the icy cold conditions here on the east coast were keeping me inside and made it difficult to get in my steps! I just couldn't wait until the warm weather arrived so that I could get out there and walk until I couldn't walk anymore. Well the summer has arrived, and dang it's hot out there! I mean like 100+ degrees hot. I'm thinking, "What in the world is a girl to do, and I sure can't wait until fall.

This Fourth of July I spent time with my family at the beach and the weather was nice. I took that time to take a load off and just relax. Granted sitting on the beach earns you absolutely no steps, but with the water nearby I decided to investigate how to convert activities not easily measured by pedometers into steps. Upon finding my answer it was clear to note that these conversions are estimates and your actual steps may vary, but I say hey if you are moving, it's worth trying to gauge it. The steps provided are per minute:

Leisurely canoeing = 100 steps
Light rowing = 111 steps
Moderate rowing = 179 steps
Vigorous rowing = 203
Scuba diving = 203 steps
Leisurely swimming = 133
Moderate swimming = 174
Treading water = 49
Vigorous swimming = 222
Water Aerobics = 100
Water Polo = 222
Water skiing = 104

So while I don't see myself doing any vigorous swimming or scuba diving, a little water aerobics may just be up my alley because I need something that is going to get me moving while keeping cool.

If you don't have a pool in your yard or nearby, check your local parks and recreation areas as many cities have swimming pools run where you can enjoy a lap or 2 or maybe even a little water polo! Don't forget to call Marco or Polo!

Stay cool and hydrated and remember to keep moving. Keep in touch at toniwyoudocs@gmail.com.

Happy stepping!
