Consuming fat has long since been rumored to be the cause of weight gain and heart disease, but sugar is also a major culprit. If you cut sugar and excess flour out of your diet, and choose the right kinds of fats, you can actually speed up your metabolism, prevent heart disease, promote brain health, and even make your skin glow! As Dr. Mark Hyman points out, flaxseed oil contains omega-3s and powerful antioxidants, which can improve your heart health. This recipe calls for berries which provide the sweetness you may miss when you cut down your sugar intake.

  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen berries
  • 2 tbsp protein powder (whey protein powder or egg white protein powder)
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed oil
  • 1/2 cup ice

1. Put all ingredients in a blender, beginning with the unsweetened vanilla almond milk.

2. Blend until smooth.
