The Borgna family shares their dinner favorite that's a family tradition – before Dr. Oz swoops in with his daughter Daphne to make some swaps to save on fat and calories. Get the Oz-approved version here!
- 1 lb dried lasagna noodles
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb sweet Italian sausage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves sliced
- 1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
- 1 tbsp oregano, chopped
- 2 resh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 liters ricotta cheese
- 1 egg lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Kosher salt
- Freshly ground pepper
- 1 lb mozzarella cheese, grated
- 1 can (28-oz) San Marzano tomatoes
- Extra-virgin olive oil
- Grated Parmesan, for topping (optional)
- Mozzarella for topping (optional)
Preheat oven to 350°F. Cook lasagna noodles. Cook ground beef and sausage. Add onion, garlic, basil, oregano, parsley and cinnamon and sauté. Mix in tomatoes and heavy cream.
In separate bowl, combine, egg, ricotta and half the Parmesan.
To build: Coat the bottom of a 13"x9" inch pan with olive oil. Layer with noodles. Then add a layer meat sauce and a layer of ricotta-cheese mixture. Sprinkle layer of mozzarella. Repeat the process starting with the noodle.
For the last layer, add noodles, layer of meat sauce, sprinkle parmesan and shredded mozzarella cheese and on top. Bake for one hour at 350°F. You can add a variety of ingredients in the middle layers (or whatever you are craving).<
