Enjoy this Italian-inspired classic with a healthy twist. These meatballs are full of flavor and contain less fat, calories and carbohyrates than the traditional dish. Ingredients

  • 1 cup nonalcoholic red wine, grape juice, or red wine
  • 2 tbsp fresh garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp chia seed
  • 1 tbsp fennel seed
  • 1/4 tsp dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepepr
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 egg whites
  • 3/4 cup ground whole-wheat bread crumbs
  • 2 lbs 99% lean ground turkey breast

Directions

In a large bowl, combine liquid, garlic and chia seed. Set aside and allow chia seed to swell for 15 minutes.

Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.

Spoon and roll into 1-oz. balls and place on nonstick baking sheet or parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes.

Remove and serve or allow to cool and refrigerate.
