In his first television appearance, Officer Frank Chiafari speaks out about the horror he witnessed during the February 2009 chimpanzee attack that left its victim mangled and disfigured. When he came face to face with the enraged primate, he had no choice but to shoot. The events of that day haunted him; Chiafari struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder, an anxiety disorder marked by intrusive thoughts and periods of sadness, anger or depression that people can develop after experiencing a life-threatening experience. Here, Chiafari shares his story and extends a message of hope to those suffering with PTSD. Dr. Oz delves into the mind-body responses that are characteristic of PTSD.
