For more than 10 years, Montel Williams has lived with MS and staved off its crippling effects. Thanks to a very specific regimen, he says he has the energy of someone half his age and promises his strategies can work for you. Could the drinks and supplements he swears by be the keys to unlocking amounts of energy you've never felt before? He thinks so. Montel notes that when he strictly adheres to this plan, he feels “alive” – but even one day off the plan can throw his energy levels into a spiral.
Montel’s Energy Boost Plan is a daily 5-part regimen of consuming natural drinks, supplements and certain foods. The idea is that if someone with MS can feel healthy while adhering to this regimen, then someone who is in perfect health should feel dramatically different.
Morning: Start With a Super Energy Smoothie
This smoothie is loaded with antioxidant- and nutrient- rich fruits and vegetables – pineapple, watermelon, blueberries, apples, bananas and spinach. Watermelon helps dilate blood vessels to promote blood flow. It also has coconut water – one of the most hydrating liquids out there. Another positive aspect of coconut water is that it helps to reduce blood pressure. The best part is Montel’s recipe yields a big batch, so it you can make it at the beginning of the week, freeze it, and drink it for a few days.
Mid-morning: Vitamin D and Chlorophyll Cocktail
Montel takes100-300 mg of chlorophyll and 1000 IU of vitamin D together daily. Chlorophyll, a molecule found in the green parts of plants that is responsible for photosynthesis, has been studied for its detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties. Diets high in chlorophyll are thought to affect the intestinal flora (good bacteria), resulting in improved management of immune disorders including rheumatoid arthritis and possibly multiple sclerosis. Chlorophyll also stimulates red blood cell production and helps boost energy levels. Taken together, chlorophyll allows for greater vitamin D absorption, which has been shown to impact energy levels. You can also get chlorophyll by consuming leafy green vegetables, fresh green juice drinks, wheat grass or spirulina.
