Get rid of the chemicals in your house and clean it up the natural way!
Simple Cleansing Sink and Toilet Scrub
This simple recipe will take the place of harsher cleansing scrubs that contain dangerous chemicals. Just mix up the ingredients below and place in a recycled Parmesan cheese container. Sprinkle the powder in your sink or tub and scrub with a wet sponge. You'll notice that it rinses easily and doesn't leave a film. You can even use this scrub in your toilet to avoid fumes and nasty acids in your water. The baking soda is a natural lifter, the salt is your scrubber, and the oxygen bleach will boost the power of the other two ingredients and remove stains.
1 cup baking soda
1 cup table or sea salt
1 cup oxygen bleach
Your favorite essential oil
Easy Furniture Restorer
When your furniture is looking a little foggy and needs some restoring, this recipe is a great way to bring back the wood tone and shine. These three simple ingredients work together to cut through any waxy buildup and add natural oils to your furniture to give it a wonderful luster.
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon lemon juice
In a small shallow bowl, mix the mayonnaise and olive oil together completely. Once smooth, add the lemon juice a little a time so it doesn't separate the other oils. Once mixed, dab a dry microfiber cloth into the mixture so you have a small amount on your cloth. Work the mixture into the wood. Let the oil sit on the piece and then wipe off with the clean side of the microfiber cloth. Buff to a beautiful finish.
Great-Grandma's Laundry Soap
One place in your home where you can make a huge difference is your laundry room. The science of detergent is that it stays in your clothing and attracts dirt and oils to it. It never completely rinses out of your clothing. If someone in your family is dealing with skin issues – using an old-fashioned laundry soap could help with skin irritations. This soap will rinse totally out of your clothing, leaving your clothes soft and chemical free.
2 cups soap flakes (you can freeze bars of Ivory Soap and grate them)
1 cup baking soda
1 cup washing soda
1 cup oxygen bleach or Borax
Mix all four ingredients completely and store in an airtight container. If you are looking for a scented laundry soap, you can use 25 drops of your favorite essential oil and mix in thoroughly. If you have a front-loading washing machine, you can use just a tablespoon or two. If you have a top loader, use 1/4 cup. You can also make this into a liquid soap by adding the powdered mixture to 10 cups of boiling water. Just add the powder a 1/4 cup at a time and wait until it's completely dissolved before adding more. Store in an airtight, pourable container.
