And they're super easy to use!
You don't have to rely on expensive workout gear or vitamins with confusing labels to improve your health. You can go to Amazon! And you won't spend a lot of money either. We worked closely with our medical unit to put together a list of cheap and inexpensive items from Amazon — that you may not have thought of — that can help you see big improvements in your health.
1. Witch Hazel: $7.67
Let's face it, those masks we've been wearing have been protecting us from COVID-19, but they've been doing nothing for our skin! So many people are reporting increased acne flare-ups right now (not to mention the acne we already had before the pandemic). Witch hazel can help keep reduce those breakouts.
Witch hazel has astringent and anti-inflammatory properties, and it's been used to shrink swollen tissue and relieve skin irritation and itching. So it's perfect to relieve those painful acne breakouts. Using a daily witch hazel toner like this one can help clear up those pimples in no time.
It's also good for hemorrhoids, those annoying swollen bulges we can get after straining on the toilet. Just apply the witch hazel directly to the hemorrhoids to help relieve itching, pain and inflammation.
2. Produce Chopper: $9.99
Dietician and nutritionist Kristin Kirkpatrick, who has helped people lose weight for over 20 years, says a produce chopper is one of the best kitchen gadgets you can get to help stay on track with your health goals. Two good options are an avocado slicer and a pineapple corer and slicer.
Using these tools can help you eat better in the long-run because they make the preparation super easy! And then you have tons of delicious ready-to-eat produce waiting for you in the fridge to snack on by themselves or throw into a bigger meal for added nutrition. This small change can help you become more comfortable with food prep and lead to big results in your eating and health.
3. Blue-Light-Blocking Glasses: $7.93
The blue light that comes from your phone, tablet, laptop and other screens can strain your eyes over time and keep your body from getting restful sleep at night. Just take a look here at all the nasty side effects you can experience from not getting enough sleep. So wearing blue-light-blocking glasses, like these ones from Amazon that come in tons of fun colors and patterns, can help reduce those harmful effects on your body and therefore lead to big improvements in your daily life.
4. Tennis Ball: $8.99
Bet you didn't think of this one! No, you're not going to be hitting the court. These green balls are the perfect little object to help stretch out the ligaments in your feet and give them a much-needed massage.
Just place the ball on the floor and put your foot on top. You can sit down or stand up and hold onto a chair for balance. Roll the ball back and forth from your heel to the ball of your foot — like you're massaging the arch of your foot. This will help stretch out your plantar fascia ligament and help relieve annoying foot pain.
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. You may have it if you wake up with foot pain or constantly feel it before or after a run. The plantar fascia ligament supports the arch in your foot and absorbs shock when you walk or run. Increased tension in that area — from weight, flat feet or running on flat surfaces like a treadmill — can irritate, inflame and even thicken the ligament. So using this tennis ball first thing in the morning is a great way to stretch out that ligament and relieve your foot pain.
5. Mini Waffle Maker: $9.62
This little guy is not just for your typical breakfast waffles. Our nutritionist Kristin has seen many of her patients use it to make low-carb and low-sugar foods! And they're getting real results in their health.
A recipe Kristin likes is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Chaffle Sandwich. Just make a quick batter mix of these ingredients:
- Egg Whites
- Cream Cheese
- Cocoa Powder
- Coconut Flour
- Low-carb Sweetener (like Swerve)
- Gluten-free Baking Powder
- Peanut Butter
Spray the waffle maker with non-stick spray and pour the batter in the mold. Heat up in the microwave and you have a quick, easy and delicious meal! Top with your favorite fruit for an added boost of flavor and nutrition.
