Ed's View: With the year 2010 winding down and Christmas less than a week away, I needed to speak to Santa about my Christmas list. I asked to be able to eat what I wanted and not gain weight. I asked to stay in shape and not go to the gym. And the last request I asked old St. Nick was if he could get the Jets into the big game this year!
Santa looked at me and said, “Aren’t you a little old to be asking for gifts from Santa?” Then he explained to me that I can already eat whatever I want… in moderation! He then said if I want to stay in shape, I need to continue to go to the gym and make sure that I do not make excuses to get away from it. Santa explained that if I was able to have the elves make these requests come true, I wouldn’t have a bowlful of jelly! As for the Jets, Santa said he was a New England fan!
Terri and I have said it in the past; no magic pills, no fad diet will work – common sense is the way to lose weight and keep it off! The hardest part is maintaining the goal weight that you have gotten to or trying to get to.
With the holidays, our time is at a premium; so make the most of it! While shopping for those last minute gifts, make sure you are also shopping for the healthiest choice in the food court. Don’t settle for the easy way out. Put the same consideration that you are putting into that “perfect gift” into choosing the food you are going to put into yourself.
If possible, take some healthy choices with you to the mall to snack on to keep the temptations away. Enjoy the rest of 2010, enjoy these days that are meant for families and friends, and I wish you continued success on your journey.
