Miracle #2

It's been almost 6 weeks since our second little miracle entered our lives! As I have said before, pregnancy is difficult for me mentally, physically and emotionally. I still deal with the baggage from years of being heavy. There are the food cravings, aversions, weight gain, comments from others, and all the other pregnancy surprises! Yet, I am sitting here now with my sweet Abigail, knowing that I would do it all over again and again. Life is simply miraculous!

My due date was approaching, and still I found that my body was not progressing. In spite of this, I tried all sorts of stunts, movements, bends, and still nothing! I will never forget the emotion that I felt; the disappointment of realizing that I would not experience a more natural childbirth. Lying on the operating table, I will not forget the message a wise nurse said to me. Her words were right and made all the difference. She reminded me that the fact that I was able to get pregnant – and that the gift of a child is just that, a gift, regardless of the entry into the world.

Needless to say, my mind was racing. I wasn't sure if I was nervous, excited, anxious, elated or scared! The series of emotions I was experiencing came in waves. Five minutes into the procedure, I heard the doctor say, "Okay Dad, stand up. You are about to meet your baby girl." Seconds later, I saw a beautiful little girl and I heard her cry. I knew then, that the only emotion I felt was pure love, and all the other fears and anxieties were washed away. There are very few sounds in life that instantly bring you to tears. Not surprising, the sound of your baby's first cry is at the top of my list! She weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches long. She's perfect in every way, and most importantly – healthy. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Since the day Abigail entered our lives, her big brother Benaiah has been all smiles! He loves her and has such a tender heart towards her. The transition has been almost seamless. Dan is equally "in love" and marvels at the beauty of his precious little daughter. (They do say "Daddy's little girl" for a reason!)

As far as my body is concerned, lettuce and spinach had been on my "food aversion" list and now they are back on my "must have" list! It's as if my body has reset itself. My goal was to be back to pre-pregnancy weight by the time I went back to work, and I am thrilled and thankful to say within the last 4 weeks I have entered my goal weight range. Little Abigail is quite the voracious eater, and burning calories is one of breastfeeding's many perks!

In addition, my mom has made me her famous salads and has brought them over to me daily! I would love to give you all her homemade healthy dressing recipes; they could quite seriously win awards! Maybe one day we'll bottle them and make them available to others.

I am looking forward to my upcoming doctor's appointment and I am expecting to have the "exercise ban" lifted! I really miss working out, sweating and keeping my body fit! I'm especially looking forward to our gloomy, cold weather to soon be warming up making it possible to take long walks outdoors! In addition, I am excited to start blogging more recipes and tips from my life's journeys with you all!!  I love being a mom, but more importantly, a healthy mom who is determined to have healthy children.

My efforts in my past weight loss (my thanks to Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen for all of their invaluable information) have now returned to me blessings in the form of my 2 wonderful children. I attribute my weight loss to enabling me to become pregnant – twice!

Life is quite an adventure and I love sharing it with all of you!
