The One Thing I Hate!

Excuses! I know I’ve talked about this before, but I think it’s time for a refresher. Countless times I am asked for advice on diet, exercise, general well being, and weight loss. Countless times I have given advice. Here’s the most common problem I see: a lack of motivation. You have to want a new lifestyle and embrace change. You have to want something so bad that you’re willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that goal. I can give you excellent advice, but what you choose to do with it afterwards is your choice.

Countless times I have given advice. Here’s the most common problem I see: a lack of motivation. You have to want a new lifestyle and embrace change. You have to want something so bad that you’re willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that goal. I can give you excellent advice, but what you choose to do with it afterwards is your choice.

I cringe when I hear any excuse, because there is no excuse for not putting yourself first to create the life you desire.


I hear: “I don’t like steel cut oats.”

I think: But you desire a thinner, healthier you, don’t you? It only takes 2 weeks to change your taste buds, and then you will like them!

I hear: “I don’t have time to exercise.”

I think: Make time, find a way, hold yourself accountable.

I hear: “I’m too tired.”

I think: If you want more energy, eat right and exercise – you won’t be tired anymore.

I hear: “Healthy food is too expensive.”

I think: Re-read my blogs. I have mentioned several ways to eat healthy and not break the budget. Healthy eating does not have to be expensive.

I hear: “I could never do what you do, Jen.”

I think: Five years ago I stopped making excuses, and look at me now. You can do it too!

I hear: “I can’t afford the gym.”

I think: Then walk and/or jog every day. Use soup cans as your weights for strength training. Be creative!

I hear: “I fell off the wagon and had pizza and ice cream.”

I think: Get back on track with your next meal. Mistakes happen and that’s OK. 

I’ve heard so many excuses that I’ve now come up with a new reply when I hear an excuse from someone. I say, “Let me know when you’re ready to commit and hold yourself accountable and then I’ll be more than happy to help you become the person you desire inside and out!” In the end, the only truth is that the only one who can help you is you.
