Dear Colleen,

I want you to know that I believe in you. I believe that there is a young, strong and powerful woman inside of you that the world is anxious to know. I know this! I can see her inside of you already, crying out desperately to rise to the surface and express joy, love and compassion towards yourself and others.

Colleen, you are the master of your own destiny and the fact that you have reached out on national television to be so open and vulnerable about your journey lets me know that you are strong and will not fail. You are on the path of self-love, my friend. You have become a sculptor by chipping away old habits, fear and anger. You are going to unleash strength and compassion like you have never felt before in your life!

I know you have a lot of work to do on your relationship and with your therapist. Those are things that do need addressing. The underlying reasons of why you are using food as a way to comfort pain and hurt is a personal journey for you to unravel. However, I want you to know, I'm here to help fill in the blanks. I also used to use food as a way to cope. I have lived in a heavy body that hid from the world just as you have. I know what it is to be overwhelmed and not want to go out, be social or even walk.

Colleen, you have already achieved the biggest step to unleashing this weight once and for all. You have acknowledged that you need help. And girlfriend, between Derrick, Dr. Oz and his team of experts and your own passion for success, you will not fail.

I heard you say that you didn't know how to cook anymore and that you finally stepped into the kitchen for the first time in a very long time. Colleen, I can help you learn how to cook! I can share with you some healthy recipes and arm you with the knowledge of how to tackle cravings just as I did. It all goes hand in hand with the work you are doing on your own with your therapist. I can help bring it to life for you every day. I always say that food is not the enemy. Food sustains us and we need it to build our bodies.

In the last year, after being on The Dr. Oz Show and blogging for this site, a lot of readers have jumped over to Facebook to share with me daily. I'm inspiring them every day with my posts, but sadly, 2 women who I connected with died this past year due to their obesity. It saddens me every day knowing that their lives were cut short. Colleen, I don't want to see you fail. You have to stay strong and focused. You have to show others who are suffering at home and watching you that shedding weight is possible.

It starts right now. Take a deep, hard look in the mirror. Say that you are worth it, that you love yourself and will do whatever it takes to focus on yourself every single day. This needs to be a selfish time for you. I am not going to lie and tell you that it will be easy, but as Dr. Oz said, "I'm not going to let you die.” Me neither. I'm here for you. Find me on Facebook at “Bonnie On Oz Matthews.”
