The Poor Chef Reflects

As I sit in the donut shop using the Internet, I wonder how I got to the place where I’m writing blogs for The Dr. Oz Show. I have worked very hard and done some amazing things, from writing cookbooks, to writing magazines on health and wellness, to creating wonderful gourmet sauces. I have a kids’ book coming, a doll line, a radio show, and the list goes on. I’m not bragging, but really, I wonder how it all happened. I think, “How can this kid from Long Island, NY get this far?”

Being the nephew of the late reggae legend Bob Marley made me think big, with dreams of being in music. I tried my hand at that but I’m no Susan Boyle. I did put a single out on a major record label; that’s what the dream was really all about. As I now walk down this road, I realize it’s not always about getting to the top of the mountain, but about the journey. My mission and love for people has moved me to want to talk about food, health, and wellness. Many people love to talk about food and I’m sure as I take this blog through the many stages, we will share recipes, great tips, and discuss places to eat. My dream is to take my message to the masses. I hope to inspire readers, the next young TV personality, authors and chefs…to understand how I made it – and still fight to maintain it. As I sit here in the donut shop, and by the way I have no desire to eat a donut, but I did have a very good muffin after my sautéed spinach and mushroom lunch, I feel the need to go on a diet, but that’s another story.
