Quick Beauty Fixes for the Holidays

Every year, just before the holidays, I vow to plan ahead so that I won’t be so stressed out. But every year I end up waiting until the last minute to get things done. There’s just so much going on: work, school plays parties, office gatherings, gift-buying, Hanukkah, Christmas, New Year’s. Who can manage to look refreshed during all of these holiday festivities? And why is it that as women, we usually put ourselves last? Why do we all try so hard to be supermom? We want to make everyone else’s holiday season special, but we need to take care of ourselves as well.

We want to make everyone else’s holiday season special, but we need to take care of ourselves as well.

So, what can you do to give yourself a quick pick-me-up for the holiday season? My recommendation is Dysport – a product that will make you look fresh and rested, even if you aren’t. Like Botox, which was FDA-approved in 2002, Dysport uses botulinum toxin to relax facial muscles and lessen the effects of wrinkles. Dysport has been around for over 20 years, but the FDA only approved its use to slow the effects of wrinkles in 2009. Dysport is typically injected in the forehead, crow’s feet, and glabella (the area between your eyes and above your nose). Prices vary depending on the patient’s needs, but Dysport typically costs less than Botox, though both injectables can last anywhere from three to six months. The results can be dramatic but natural-looking. I recently had a patient tell me that her husband kept complimenting her, though he couldn’t quite figure out why she looked so good.   


Fillers can also offer a quick holiday boost. Restylane and Perlane, which help to plump up your skin, are injectables that give instant results, require no down-time, and have few side effects. Over time, you begin to produce more collagen, which can lead to more elasticity in your skin. It’s about lifting and filling in all of the facial areas that are heading south due to the aging process. These fillers, made from hyaluronic acids, can help you maintain a younger, more refreshed complexion.

Because the holidays are already here, I recommend getting your treatments within the next week or two. This is a crazy and busy season, but that’s part of the fun! Remember to stop and enjoy the special moments with family and friends. You may be tired on the inside but after a quick trip to the doctor, your face will be glowing with the holiday cheer!

4 Steps to Shedding Your Pandemic Pounds

For those of you who have put on the Pandemic Pounds or added several new COVID Curves, you are not alone. Alarmingly, the American Psychological Association has recently published that almost half of all adults in their survey now have a larger physique. In fact, 42% of people reported gaining roughly 15 pounds (the average published was surprisingly 29 pounds but that included outliers) over the past year. Interestingly, 20% of adults in this survey lost about 12 pounds (I am surely not in this group). Clearly, there is a relationship between stress and weight change. In addition, one in four adults disclosed an increase in alcohol consumption, and 67% of participants distressingly revealed that they have new sleeping patterns.

This past year has brought about what has been called the 'new normal.' Social isolation and inactivity due to quarantining and remote working have sadly contributed to the decline in many people's mental and physical health, as demonstrated by the widespread changes in people's weight, alcohol consumption, and sleeping patterns. Gym closures, frequent ordering of unhealthy takeout, and increased time at home cooking and devouring comfort foods have had a perceptible impact. In addition, many people have delayed routine medical care and screening tests over fear of contracting Covid-19 during these visits. Unfortunately, the 'new normal' has now placed too many people at risk for serious health consequences, including heart attacks and strokes.
