Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!

Success is upon me – today I celebrate my weight loss of 50 pounds! Yay! I look back to when it all officially began on September 15, 2009, and feel nothing but joy and pride to see how far I have come. Not only am I 50 pounds lighter – I am leaner, my muscles are becoming more defined, I have more energy, I love life, and I feel sexy and empowered.

I will never forget those that have helped me get to this point. I would love to say I did it all on my own however, that is far from the truth! Dr. Roizen has become not only my lifeline and weight loss coach, but also my mentor as I now give back and help others to reach their weight loss goals. Mike Clibbens, my personal trainer has pushed me beyond limits I never thought I would get passed. He has endured listening to me gripe and complain, scream and shout, and despite my endless dirty looks, he has stood by me and pushed me closer to my goals while helping me set new ones.

Next are my dear friends and support system; The Healthy Housewives of Oz – Toni Winston and Brooke Page. Together the 3 of us put our lives and journey out there for all America to see. The 3 of us have embarked on a journey that will forever bond us, we have been each other’s strength when we ourselves were weak and have challenged each other to try new things. I will forever hold these ladies dear.

Without a shadow of a doubt, all these people and many more have aided in my success and I am thankful to them all. Without them I would not be where I am today. I have come to realize that sometimes you just need to put yourself out there and ask for help. I am not saying you have to go on national TV to lose weight – however share your goals with others and lean on them to help you reach your goals. Trust me, teamwork makes the dream work!

4 Steps to Shedding Your Pandemic Pounds

Forgive yourself, and start walking toward a healthier you.

For those of you who have put on the Pandemic Pounds or added several new COVID Curves, you are not alone. Alarmingly, the American Psychological Association has recently published that almost half of all adults in their survey now have a larger physique. In fact, 42% of people reported gaining roughly 15 pounds (the average published was surprisingly 29 pounds but that included outliers) over the past year. Interestingly, 20% of adults in this survey lost about 12 pounds (I am surely not in this group). Clearly, there is a relationship between stress and weight change. In addition, one in four adults disclosed an increase in alcohol consumption, and 67% of participants distressingly revealed that they have new sleeping patterns.

This past year has brought about what has been called the 'new normal.' Social isolation and inactivity due to quarantining and remote working have sadly contributed to the decline in many people's mental and physical health, as demonstrated by the widespread changes in people's weight, alcohol consumption, and sleeping patterns. Gym closures, frequent ordering of unhealthy takeout, and increased time at home cooking and devouring comfort foods have had a perceptible impact. In addition, many people have delayed routine medical care and screening tests over fear of contracting Covid-19 during these visits. Unfortunately, the 'new normal' has now placed too many people at risk for serious health consequences, including heart attacks and strokes.
