Well, I do love words I admit it! I especially love them when their meaning is exactly on target with a sense of being.

I woke up this morning thinking about my own presence in my body, and in my life. I remember that my friend Annemarie reminds me to enjoy the journey! She is so right! When I fuss to her about wanting to just get a little leaner even still, she says, just be happy with where you are! Well, that's true!

Today, I'm focusing on living in what I am defining as “The Wabi Sabi Zone” of weight loss. Wabi Sabi is the wonderful zone of beauty and imperfection and accepting things as they change.  The concept of wabi sabi to me is so perfect as it pertains to weight loss! I'm not seeking to be a supermodel with the last little fat sucked out of me in the OR. I'm not seeking some magic pill that will help keep my 46 year old wrinkles at bay. I'm seeking being accepting of right where I am today. For better or for worse! I am seeking stillness and happiness of the simplicity of a state of mind! The Wabi Sabi Zone!

So there you have it! I have been frustrated with my body lately. I was sick with a virus and then I was involved in a car accident and have not been able to run. With that said, my legs aren't quite as lean as they were about a month ago. Some of my muscle mass and definition has slipped away. Well, as of today, I am saying, "Who cares!" I'm not perfect. I'm accepting myself as I am today! I'm healthy and I am still changing. And in a few more weeks, I'll be back to where I was. I just need to be patient and remember to live in The Wabi Sabi Zone in my head!

I'm happy. I'm humble. I'm healthy. And I'm a ham (all natural ham of course!)

4 Steps to Shedding Your Pandemic Pounds

Forgive yourself, and start walking toward a healthier you.

For those of you who have put on the Pandemic Pounds or added several new COVID Curves, you are not alone. Alarmingly, the American Psychological Association has recently published that almost half of all adults in their survey now have a larger physique. In fact, 42% of people reported gaining roughly 15 pounds (the average published was surprisingly 29 pounds but that included outliers) over the past year. Interestingly, 20% of adults in this survey lost about 12 pounds (I am surely not in this group). Clearly, there is a relationship between stress and weight change. In addition, one in four adults disclosed an increase in alcohol consumption, and 67% of participants distressingly revealed that they have new sleeping patterns.

This past year has brought about what has been called the 'new normal.' Social isolation and inactivity due to quarantining and remote working have sadly contributed to the decline in many people's mental and physical health, as demonstrated by the widespread changes in people's weight, alcohol consumption, and sleeping patterns. Gym closures, frequent ordering of unhealthy takeout, and increased time at home cooking and devouring comfort foods have had a perceptible impact. In addition, many people have delayed routine medical care and screening tests over fear of contracting Covid-19 during these visits. Unfortunately, the 'new normal' has now placed too many people at risk for serious health consequences, including heart attacks and strokes.
