It's more important than ever to make sure your masks are effectively protecting you. Yes, more and more people continue to get the COVID-19 vaccine every day. But we're a while off from seeing the end of the pandemic. And with the highly contagious new strains spreading across the country, now is not the time to let your guard down.

Dr. Oz spoke with a member of President Biden's COVID-19 advisory board, Dr. Atul Gawande, about how important it still is to wear your mask — and wear it right.


"This is our single most important tool against all those strains that … have been mutating and developing," Gawande said.

He noted three things that can give you the most protection:

  • Three-layer cloth masks
  • Close seal around your cheeks
  • Metal clip to keep it from slipping off your nose

Gawande mentioned the KN95 masks offer a good fit.

"There are little things about the ways that you wear your mask," he said. "There are many things we can do to do even better at protecting yourself.
