Find out if you're unknowingly eating foods with hidden sugars.

When you're on the quest for better health, the last thing you need is a sugary derailment. So many of the foods we choose each day are loaded with hidden sugars that can undo all of our dieting and exercise efforts. No matter which diet plan you subscribe to, there is one universal rule: the less sugar the better.
The 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans suggests limiting added sugar intake to less than 10 percent of calories you ingest per day (this means 200 calories for those following a 2,000 calorie diet). We asked Rachel Swanson, MS, RD, LDN and Dr. Aviva Romm to unveil the secret sugar bombs that we need to watch out for. Here are 10 foods to keep on your radar.
While you may typically associate barbecue sauce with savory protein dishes like chicken or pork, this condiment can actually pack a ton of sugar. If you want to enjoy the flavor without being hit with a sugar bomb, you can try to brush the sauce onto the meat. It'll soak it up, without having to drizzle it all over or dip your food in it. Dr. Romm also recommends making your own to avoid all the preservatives and control the amount of sugar that goes into it.
