Step #1: The 80/20 Rule

Start the May diet by eliminating excess water weight. When you’re eating a diet full of carbohydrates, your body can retain pounds of excess water; for every pound of carbs you store, your body can hold up to four pounds of water. Filling your plate with 80% low glycemic vegetables and 20% protein and fats can help you shed this unwanted water weight. Here are some examples of 80/20 meals:

Three cups of broccoli, red peppers and a slice of avocado with three ounces of grilled chicken
A giant salad with steak
Shrimp and veggie stir-fry
