Odd behaviors such as an inability to use public restrooms or a strong negative reaction to the sound of people chewing are usually seen as personality quirks. But sometimes those quirks can actually be undiagnosed medical conditions. Check out some of the unusual conditions, here.
Misophonia is a neurological disorder that literally means “hatred of sound.” People with this condition cannot stand the sound of others chewing, breathing too loudly, or other body function noises. While most people tune these sounds out, those with misophonia react in an angry or violent way because their nervous systems’ activate fight mode. While it’s not officially recognized as a medical disorder, it is presumed to affect 20 percent of the general population.
