Olympic athletes eat more than the average person.
Olympians consume a large number of calories because their activity level is significantly higher than the average person. Gymnasts and synchronized swimmers eat 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day whereas team sports players like beach volleyball athletes eat around 4,500. Athletes that compete for multiple hours like swimmers and cyclists may eat up to 8,000 calories in a day because they need it for lasting energy.
