This Genius Anxiety Hack Can Help You Calm Down in Seconds

We're all feeling a little anxious lately — with working from home, cooking more for our families, and the weight of a pandemic hanging over our heads. Try this easy trick to help calm your anxiety in the moment you feel it most.

All you need is an ice cube and a few seconds for yourself.

Place the ice cube in the palm of your hand, and close your fist around it. Close your eyes, too. Focus your mind and thoughts on the sensations you feel. The coldness, the melting water, the texture of the ice. How does the ice feel in your hand? Do this for about 20 seconds.

It's ok if this is a little uncomfortable — by immersing yourself in this moment, your body naturally calms down. You naturally remove your attention from the anxiety you were feeling.

This is called a grounding exercise. Dr. Oz says putting a lemon wedge in your mouth can also work with this trick. Come back here for more calming mental health tips, or follow Dr. Oz on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok.
