Diversity in Medicine Scholarship Contest

We’re now accepting our next round of scholarship submissions.


The Dr. Oz Show's ongoing commitment to supporting our #MoreBlackDoctors campaign is moving into accepting our next round of scholarship submissions.

The #MoreBlackDoctors campaign includes Zoom seminars, segments highlighting racial disparities in healthcare, and unique opportunities for students. The first ever Diversity in Medicine scholarship — made possible by The Dr. Oz Show and HealthCorps — is accepting its second round of applicants.

Prior entrants from the October 2020 Diversity in Medicine Scholarship Contest are automatically eligible and enrolled in the Extended Contest and need not resubmit a new Entry. The scholarship winner from the October 2020 Diversity in Medicine Scholarship Contest will be announced November 25, 2020. 

Entrants must submit only one Entry. An Entrant who submits multiple Entries will be disqualified.

The extended contest will open at 9AM ET Nov 9, 2020

You must meet the following criteria in order to apply:

-Must be African American or Black

-Must be either an undergraduate enrolled in an accredited college/university in the United States with the goal of applying to medical school or a medical student accepted or attending an accredited medical school in the United States.

-Exhibits a commitment to service and health of their community

-A desire to tackle health inequities

-Exemplifies a dedication to studying the field of medicine despite adversities

Part of the application includes an essay (up to 400 words) explaining:

  • Why you are inspired to become a doctor and pursue a degree in the field of medicine despite adversities?
  • How you intend to use your medical knowledge and degree to help under represented communities and tackle health inequities.


NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.  Internet access required. Extended Contest is open until 11:59PM ET on December 9, 2020. Open to all legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia and who have been accepted into an accredited four (4) year university or medical school program in the United States and self-identify as African American or Black. Must be at least 18 years of age to enter. Void where prohibited.
