The Total 10 Rapid Weight-Loss Plan will get you on your way to your weight loss goals this year. But not everyone should be on a diet. Find out here if this plan is right for you.
Is there anything I should do before starting the diet?
While the The Total 10 Rapid Weight-Loss Plan isn’t dangerous for most people, it could be for those who have certain nutritional requirements, who are on certain medications, or who have certain medical conditions. Before radically changing your diet, you should always consult with a doctor to make sure it is safe for you to do so.
My doctor already has me on a diet. Should I do this one instead?
Diets can be prescribed for a variety of reasons ranging from weight loss to disease control. If your doctor already has you on a diet you should stick to it as closely as possible and avoid other diets.
I’m taking medications. Could this diet affect how they work?
Certain medications, like blood thinners or medications for diabetes, are affected by the foods you eat. If you’re on medications, discuss with your doctor whether dramatically changing your diet will affect how your medications work before starting the diet.
I’m pregnant. Can I do this diet?
Diets should generally be avoided during pregnancy. Weight gain during pregnancy is normal and expected. As the fetus grows, your weight will increase. Trying to lose weight during pregnancy can harm the fetus and may lead to complications during your pregnancy.
I have a medical condition. Can I be on this diet?
Medical conditions can be affected by dramatic changes in diet. Those with medical conditions that affect the GI tract (mouth, esophagus, stomach, intestines) and those with diabetes may be especially at risk. You should not start this diet without consulting with a doctor. If you are on a special diet for your condition, you should stay on that diet.
I’ve been doing this diet for a few days, but I’m starting to feel sick. What should I do?
If you start to notice changes in your health as a result of the diet, go back to your regular diet and consult a doctor immediately. If your symptoms are serious, call 911.
Can the protein powder be eliminated in the smoothie?
The protein powder can be eliminated from the smoothie. The problem is, dropping the protein from the smoothie means you may not stay full until lunch. While the almond milk definitely adds some protein to the shake, the powder gives it the protein kick needed to get you through those hours. If you really hate protein powder, replace it with a single, hard-boiled egg to eat with your smoothie.
Can you do this while you are nursing?
This plan shouldn’t be done within the first two months of nursing. Dieting too soon after giving birth may signal to your body that you don’t have enough calories to provide for your child. That may cause your milk production to decrease or even stop if you start dieting immediately after birth. Even after two months, you should always eat at least 1800 calories per day while you breastfeed. Remember, breastfeeding your baby can burn up to 500 calories a day. If you’re breastfeeding, you’re already getting a workout in.
Do you have the breakfast instead of the morning shake or in addition to?
You can do one or the other, but not both. The shake is one of the breakfast options, but should not be done in combination with the other breakfast meals.
Can men follow this plan? If so, how rigidly should they follow it?
This plan applies equally to men and women and the rules need not be changed for men. Both genders will experience weight loss on the plan.
Can this be modified for vegetarians or vegans?
It can. All dairy and protein can be replaced with vegan alternatives. For example, the 12 ounces of fish or poultry can be replaced with 12 ounces of tofu. Many stores sell vegan protein powders that can be used with the morning smoothie.
I’m constipated. What do I do?
There are two common causes of constipation: dehydration and lack of dietary fiber. If you find yourself constipated, you probably need to increase your fluid intake and up the fruits and vegetables you’re eating. Remember, you get unlimited non-starchy vegetables and can have apples and bananas at specific times of the day. All are high in dietary fiber. And of course, you can have as much water as you need. If you’re not sure how much water to drink, use the pee color chart to judge how well hydrated you are.
How many grams of protein should be in your whey protein powder for the smoothies?
The grams of protein don’t matter. You just want to make sure the powder you choose has as little sugar and fat in it as possible (ideally none). Adding a few extra grams of protein here and there doesn’t make a difference. You just want to make sure you’re not adding calories of added sugar hidden in your protein powder.
What kind of probiotic should you take?
In place of taking a probiotic supplement, we recommend you eat Greek yogurt that contains live active cultures. You can find this information where you would normally look for the ingredients on the container of yogurt. These living bacteria can help to supplement the healthy bacteria already in your gut. If you’d still like to take a probiotic, you can follow Dr. Oz’s Probiotic Guide.
Does it matter if the vegetables I eat are cooked or raw?
You can have unlimited non-starchy vegetables. It doesn’t matter whether they’re cooked or uncooked. Prepare them in whatever way makes you more likely to eat and enjoy them.
What can you do if you don’t have a bathtub to detox?
If you don’t have a bathtub, try a relaxing foot soak with the same ingredients. Use about one tablespoon of Epsom salt per gallon of water and about half a tablespoon of baking soda per gallon of water used.
