While the latest U.S. Dietary Guidelines recognize that nuts can be part of a healthy eating pattern, nuts do not meet the FDA's longstanding definition of a "healthy" nutrient content based on their fat and nutrient levels. However, the agency is considering updating its definition in light of evolving research that now focuses on the type of fat in foods, rather than the amount of fat.
