Salty Date Caramel Sauce

This healthier caramel sauce alternative is made with dates to naturally sweeten and add fiber to your dessert. You can dip in fruit or try drizzling it over sharp cheddar, tangy blue cheese, or creamy brie cheese.

15 large dates, pitted
1 1/4 cups hot water
2 tsp vanilla extract
juice of 1/2 a lemon
1/4 tsp sea salt
1 tbsp coconut oil

1. Soak the dates in hot water for about 20 to 30 minutes, then add the dates and the soaking water to a powerful blender or food processor.

 

2. Add the vanilla, lemon juice, salt, and coconut oil and process until smooth.

 

3. Serve over fruit slices or cheese, or just take a spoon and enjoy it by itself.
