za'atar spice

There's a new, trendy spice in town that's getting a lot of coverage called za'atar — and Dr. Oz wants you to add it into your meals. This mix is a blend of a bunch of different herbs and spices that not only smells good, but is also nutrient-rich and has a lot of antioxidants. There's also not a lot of salt, making it a great low-sodium alternative for cooking.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp fresh thyme or oregano, minced
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 tsp ground sumac (or lemon pepper seasoning)
  • 1/2 tsp coarse salt
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp ground coriander

Directions

1. Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Store in a container and use in meat marinades or add into Greek yogurt or olive oil for a healthy dip.
