You’ve embarked on a seven-day cruise only to find, within the first hour at sea, that you have motion sickness. You’ve just sat down for a sunny outdoor brunch and noticed that sweat stains have begun to appear on your clothes. You’ve finished a delicious meal with friends, and now your stomach is performing an experimental song for all to hear. These and other health issues, however minor, can be a drag. Thankfully, there are several quick fixes you turn to when your body is trying to cramp your style. Hiccups


When you were a kid you may have heard that scaring the daylights out of someone was the only way to help them get rid of the hiccups. Fortunately (but perhaps less entertainingly), there are some other solutions to try first. Since hiccups are caused by nervous spasms in the diaphragm, relaxing this area of the body can help alleviate embarrassing eruptions. Cupping your hands over your nose and mouth achieves this by providing the body with extra carbon dioxide. Holding your breath, and thus keeping carbon dioxide in your lungs, creates a similar effect. In addition, plugging your ears, or stimulating the area behind your lobes, may help curb the issue by communicating a relaxation signal to the body.
